Article on young people’s pathways to climate activism and their relation to consumption practices

The journal article “From Sustainable Consumption to Climate Activism: Sustainability Careers of Young People in Germany” by Sarah von Querfurth and Carsten Herbes examines the consumption practices and attitudes towards sustainability found among activists, supporters, and non-supporters of climate movement Fridays for Future. Based on 21 narrative interviews, the study shows that sustainable consumption practices among supporters and activists expand over time, while activists increasingly view individual consumption as less important for climate protection and instead place greater emphasis on their political engagement. The article has been published as open access in the journal Nature and Culture.
