Conference Program published: The Ecological Bootprint: Apprehending the Military-Environmental Nexus

From March 17 to 19, 2026, the conference “The Ecological Bootprint: Apprehending the Military-Environmental Nexus” will take place at the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society (RCC) in Munich. The aim of the conference is to critically examine the interrelationships between the military and the environment. Drawing on various disciplines, perspectives, and temporal dimensions, methods and analytical frameworks will be discussed to shed light on the military footprint and the impact of the military on humans and non-humans.
The conference is part of the research project “Greening Military? On the Transformation of the Military Metabolism in Context of Climate Change and Increasing Geopolitical Tensions” which is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation from 1 June 2024 to 31 May 2027.
