CfP Conference "Nature – Animals – War. Relations and Interactions from Antiquity to the Present Day"

From 16th to 18th September 2026, the international conference “Nature – Animals – War. Relationships and Interactions from Antiquity to the Present” will take place at TU Dortmund University. The aim of the conference is to bridge the previously distinct fields of environmental, animal, and military history, and to provide a forum for innovative research. The focus lies on the impact of military force on nature and wildlife, as well as the significance of animals and the environment in the context of war and conflict.
The conference is being organized by TU Dortmund University in cooperation with the Working Group on Military History (AKM), University of Kassel, and the Bundeswehr Centre of Military History and Social Sciences (ZMSBw) and is being organized by Jannes Bergmann (HU Berlin), Friederike C. Hartung (ZMSBw), Kerrin Langer (TU Dortmund), Alexander Reineke (RUB), and Mieke Roscher (Uni Kassel).
